Altered notebook

Hi everyone, thanks for joining me. I apologise for being late with my blog. I’m actually on holiday in Gran Canaria with my daughter. The only crafting I’m working on at the moment is how to tan without burning and not melt at the same time – no easy task I can tell you!

Anyway enough about that, let’s talk crafting 😊

It’s a bit of a flashback in time, to a few months ago. I had a tutorial by a lady called Joanne Roe. It was a mixed media piece and it challenged me technically.

My mixed media piece. Not my usual style but I love it because it stretched me.

I’m not going to go into the details of how I made the canvas, I don’t think it would be right as this was a lesson I paid for. But what I am going to show you is how I covered a little notebook, using some of the techniques I learned from the tutorial.

The first thing I did was stencilled the front cover of the notebook, using 3D gel paste. The stencil is a SnipArt one from Craft Box.

The gel paste goes on white and dries clear.

Once dry, I then painted over with black gesso and left to dry for a couple of minutes before adding on my embellishments. I used the same gel paste to stick everything down and left it to air dry.

I wanted this page to have lots of texture. It might not look much now but it will come to life when it’s finished.

Once everything had fully dried into place, I painted over everything with black gesso. I also painted over the back cover.

I love this part of the process, this is when things start to come together. It looks completely different now doesn’t it?

This next part is where I had to be brave and add colour! Now I can’t actually remember which colours I used, but I do know they were a selection of Metallics by DecoArt.

These paints are lush. A little goes a long way.

The colours were dry brushed over the top of the embellishments to highlight the textures and layers.

The different colours don’t show up particularly well here but the last photo shows different colours again. I love how the dry brushing highlights the layers and textures. It really has transformed this little notebook.

Well that’s it from me this week, back to the sun lounger. It’s a tough job but it’s got to be done 😉

Bye for now. Happy crafting!
